Heavy winds fan extra-alarm fire in South Loop
Heavy winds are continuing to fan an extra-alarm fire at a commercial building in the South Loop early Tuesday.
At 3:20 a.m., a fire was reported at 1326 S. Michigan Ave. and an extra alarm was called about fifteen minutes later, Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said. No one is hurt as of 5:25 a.m.

Woman using Loop ATM beaten, suspect charged
The 33-year-old female victim and a witnesses told police that Washington allegedly came up behind the woman as she was using the MB Financial ATM at 557 S. State St., according to a police report.
He allegedly punched and kicked her in her head and body causing serious injuries and knocked out her teeth and cut her face, the report said.
Responding officers saw blood, tooth loss, swelling and cuts on her face and body, the report said. The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was in “stable” condition.
The captain said her condition was not life threatening and she lost at least one tooth.

South Loop Parking Meeting on Tuesday

The South Loop parking study has been completed and representatives from the consulting firm as well as the Department of Transportation will be presenting their findings at an upcoming community meeting. Parking in the South Loop has so far lagged behind the recent population growth. I urge everyone who owns a vehicle and lives or does business in the South Loop to attend this meeting, as a great deal of information will be presented and community feedback will be necessary.
